The Glasgow-based artist explores fear, self-doubt and the courage to keep moving
Glasgow-based German singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Becky Sikasa releases her new single ‘Sky Is Close’. Blending neo-soul, alternative R&B and indie-pop, Sikasa brings emotional honesty to a song about finding a way forward when the world feels overwhelming. When speaking on the song, Becky explains “Sky Is Close’ was written on my upright piano, mostly recorded in Cologne and finished in Edinburgh at the end of summer. 'To live in fear is not an option’; it’s about small things, big changes, new challenges and old habits. About having faith, trusting your gut, feeling grateful.”
Bringing together her Kenyan, Swiss and German roots and Glasgow home, Sikasa creates rich, introspective soundscapes that draw on soul’s expressive depth and indie-pop’s exploratory spirit. Her debut EP, Twelve Wooden Boxes (2022), and its follow-up, The Writings and the Pictures and the Song (2024), were both shortlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award. With support from Clash and recognition as BBC Introducing Scottish Artist of the Year 2025, she continues to establish herself as a distinctive voice in the UK’s neo-soul landscape. That momentum is reflected in sustained radio support. BBC Introducing in Scotland has played every track Sikasa has uploaded since 2022, alongside regular support from Jess Iszatt on BBC Radio 1 and Theo Johnson on BBC Radio 1Xtra, plus earlier plays on Rapal on BBC Alba.
Sikasa has toured with Nile Rodgers and supported Sam Smith, corto.alto, Joy Crookes and The Crane Wives, among others. Music icon Annie Lennox personally invited her to play the main stage at Wilderness Festival, and has championed her ever since, stating: “She’s phenomenal. With a voice like that, with a songwriting capacity like that, this is a real artist.” Working with award-winning producers and directors, she continues to develop an artistic vision grounded in feeling and a willingness to be open. Rather than offering easy answers, ‘Sky Is Close’ makes room for uncertainty while reaching towards connection, gratitude and possibility. It is a reminder that moving forward does not require having everything figured out

You may be scared
But you still got to do it
You have to move
Move right through it
To live in fear is not an option
To live in fear isn’t living at all
I want to live, I want to live, I want to live
I want to live, I want to live, I want to live
Maybe believing is just feeling
Grateful for your blessings
I get a feeling about these things
It never really lets me down
But I keep giving in to self doubt
Oh
I get a feeling, I get a feeling, I get a feeling
I get a feeling, I get a feeling, I get a feeling
When the sky is close
Carry me, carry me
When I’m running out of road
Carry me, carry me
